bright sunshiny day

Monday, 29 April 2013

This post is inspired by one of my favourite songs. Not favourite because it has the hippest beat, or was sung by a super cool singer, but becuase it brings back THE BEST memories. Memories of my mom, sisters and I rocking out in our living room. Dancing and singing all day long. Like pros.

Do any of you know Holly Cole? Probably not. She's a Canadian Jazz singer from the 90's. My mom was kind of obsessed with her. So I guess we were too. The most memorable song, and my personal fav is 'I Can See Clearly Now.' Well, you might actually know this song, because it was sung by Johnny Nash and Jimmy Cliff, both who have around 3million views on YouTube, and Holly Cole has about 38 thousand. So, anyways, it's a really good one, and kind of summed up this past weekend.

As any of you who follow me on Instagram might know, I live in Ottawa, Canada, and the weather here has been TERRIBLE. Like, where the hell is Spring?  So finally, yesterday it was warm enough to bust out the MK sandals, and a skirt, and a tshirt. And the sun was shining. It was some kinda miracle.

So I took Dolly outside, played with Piper, we went for a walk and then hung out in my parents backyard. It was glorious.
After our walk, some bear fell asleep.

Piper loves a good game of fetch. Unfortunatlely, she hasn't figured out the whole, 'drop it' part. So you basically have to pull it out of her mouth. Super fun for her, not so much for me.

She does this run and lunge into your hand move, it's pretty funny.

When Dolly woke up,  we played on the grass for a bit...
 Super serious faces
Her new sticking out her tongue move is kinda cute, eh.
'This hat is super cute, but I look funny, right?'
Ok mom, that is enough with the photos for one day, thanks.

So then I decided to pretend to be a fashion blogger and get hubs to take photos of me looking cute.
And he was all 'do you really need more photos of yourself?
And I was all, 'ya, now I'm going to take some selfies, because that's my thing'
Luckily my mom has a mirror in her backyard, so I didn't have to get out the tripod.

And then we had a delicious Sunday meal, like we always do. It really was a great day.

new pants

Sunday, 28 April 2013

The other day I did something I haven't done in awhile. I bought myself a new pair of pants. I have wanted these for awhile, but was waiting until I could fit back into a small. So the day finally came, looks like the 30 day squat challenge/operation get fit for Cali is working, a bit. We were going out to a friends birthday, so I wore my new pants and shoes. They feel even cooler than they look and are super comfy.

whatta week

Thursday, 25 April 2013

This past week, my sister Mercedes,  the brains and creativity behind Darling and Daisy (well one of them, anyways), was staying with us. A few weeks ago she hosted an incredible event called Lovestruck Expo. It was such a success and we had a ton of fun with it. We recently decided that a mini re-brand was in order. So Mercedes came to visit from Toronto, and we spent the entire week working. Working, and designing. Working and laughing, and dancing obnoxiously with Ellia. Working and playing and making big decisions. Working and planning/designing/hosting a 6 month mini unicorn party for Ellia. And working, did I mention that yet?

Here's just a little peek at one of the 3 parties we designed for Lovestruck. More on that to come.

I am by no means a graphic designer, just a girl with some Photoshop skills, lots of creatively brewing around and a sister with kick ass ideas. So when she suggested we design a whole new website, I, of course, said yes. And in true darling and daisy fashion, we designed from scratch, a fresh new brand for d&d.

I drew up this button for the website, meet the girls. Anyone who knows us, will truly appreciate it and the humour of the illustrations. Mom, with the crazy flipped out hair and glasses, Mer with a top knot and giant bow, and me all dolled with curled hair.

Just a little peek at the new site!

And then there was the unicorn party. A FULL post to come on that awesomeness soon.
For now, just a photo of the little set up and my wonderful girl enjoying it all.

And the cheesy designer shot, too.

hello

Wednesday, 17 April 2013

Okay, so I feel like I need some sort of introductory post, even though this isn't the beginning of the blog. We are kind of just picking up in the middle. But that's okay, right? If you scroll down you can see some super fun things, like my maternity photos post, my baby shower or birth story. Thanks for stopping by, love you guys! xoxo nat

52 Weeks of Ellia - the first 24 weeks

I made a decision before Ellia was born, to take a photo of her every week, for the first year of her life. I am already completely surprised how much she has changed, and how quickly it happens. I want her to be able to look back at these photos and see it all for herself. I plan on making a book at the very end of her first year.  I still adore my baby book, looking at it makes me happy. Unlike my weekly belly photos, I vowed to keep this up. So far, so good.
From here on out, I will post the photo weekly and a little update about what she's up to. Every night since she was born, I have written in a journal, so don't worry, nothing up until this point will be forgotten, well undocumented. Mama brain is the worst sometimes.
